About Uvex
uvex was founded in 1926 in the Fürth suburb of Poppenreuth, where Philipp M. Winter hand-made the first safety spectacles in his optical workshop. It is still owned and run by the Winter family a century on. The name itself dates from 1956, coined by Philipp's son Rainer from the lens quality seal — ultra violet excluded — and it remains the most direct summary of what the brand does.
uvex covers most of the above-the-neck and hand categories: safety spectacles and goggles with supravision anti-fog coatings, the pheos and i-works families, welding and laser protection, safety footwear, hearing protection, and the phynomic and athletic glove ranges. German engineering shows up as fit tolerances and coating durability rather than headline features — uvex eyewear tends to be what people reach for when the cheap glasses keep getting thrown away.
We supply uvex to engineering, laboratory, automotive, pharmaceutical and precision manufacturing clients across Scotland — environments where the cost of a scratched lens or a failed glove is measured in scrapped work rather than in the price of the PPE. Trade pricing improves with volume and agreed lines can be held for call-off.
There are currently 9 products from Uvex in the catalogue, covering ppe, safety footwear, safety boots and safety trainers, from £75.17 ex VAT. Everything is available on business terms, with trade pricing that improves with volume. Orders over £150 ex VAT are delivered free, and most stocked lines dispatch for fast delivery.

Standards and how to choose
Specifying Uvex kit correctly means matching the product to the right EN standard. These guides explain what the ratings mean, in plain English:
- Safety Boot Standards Explained: EN ISO 20345:2022 (SB to S7)The 2022 update to EN ISO 20345 added S6 and S7, replaced SRA, SRB and SRC, split puncture protection into PS and PL, and made fuel-oil resistance optional. Here is what every code means now.
- EN 388 Explained: Glove Cut Levels, Codes & How to ChooseThe code under the hammer pictogram on a safety glove — like 4X43D — is its EN 388 rating. Here is what every digit means, the test values behind each level, and how to pick the right cut level for the job.
