Composite Toe Cap Safety Boots
Safety boots with a composite or other non-metal toe cap. They meet the same 200 J impact test as steel under EN ISO 20345, but are lighter and don't carry cold or heat to your toes.
Most boots here are fully metal-free, with a non-metal midsole too, so they pass airport, prison and site metal detectors. A few pair a composite toe with a steel midsole: check the product page if you need metal-free.

What to look for
Composite toe vs fully metal-free
A composite toe cap alone doesn't make a boot metal-free. Look for a non-metal (Kevlar or textile) midsole as well, shown as S1PL/S1PS, S3L/S3S or "metal-free" on the product page.
Same protection as steel
Every safety toe cap, steel or composite, must pass the same 200 J impact and 15 kN compression tests. Composite caps are slightly bulkier to do it.
Warmer in winter
Composite doesn't conduct cold like steel, so toes stay warmer on frozen ground. For real cold, see winter safety boots.
Pick the rating for the site
Most outdoor sites ask for S3. For wet ground all day, choose S7, which adds a whole-boot water test. See waterproof safety boots.
Frequently asked questions
Are composite toe caps as safe as steel?
Yes. Both have to pass the same 200 J impact test and 15 kN compression test under EN ISO 20345. Composite is lighter and doesn't conduct heat or cold.
Do composite toe boots set off metal detectors?
Not if the whole boot is metal-free. Most boots on this page have a non-metal midsole too; a few use a steel midsole, which a detector will pick up.
Are composite toe boots lighter?
Usually, yes. Composite caps and non-metal midsoles weigh less than steel. See our lightweight safety boots.
What does S3S mean?
S3S is an S3 boot with a non-metal midsole that passed the tougher, thinner-nail puncture test in the 2022 standard. S3L passed the thicker-nail test.
