ATPV (arc thermal performance value) is the incident energy at which there is a 50% chance that enough heat gets through to cause the onset of a second-degree burn. Your arc-flash assessment tells you the energy you need to protect against.

The orange style, GP2JR, is certified to RIS-3279-TOM Issue 2.

Does the hood fit over a helmet?

The Velocity is for people who face electrical and flame risk in the same weather as everyone else: electricity network and substation teams, rail electrification crews, utilities and energy sites. Arc Rated GORE-TEX® PYRAD® Garments combine flame and arc protection with waterproofing in one layer.

The outer fabric is a 2-layer GORE-TEX® laminate with GORE-TEX® PYRAD® Fabric Technology, with a 50% aramid, 50% viscose lining. The jacket carries a long list of certifications:

EN 61482-2 arc protection (APC 2, ATPV 48 cal/cm², ELIM 42 cal/cm²)
EN ISO 11612 heat and flame (A1, A2, B2, C1, D3, E1, F1)
EN ISO 11611 Class 2 for welding-related hazards
EN 1149-5 antistatic
EN 13034 Type 6 for light chemical splash

The orange style (GP2JR) is also certified to RIS-3279-TOM Issue 2.

The integral peaked hood has deep chin protection and crown adjustment, and it is sized to go over a helmet. It has a front zip under a hook-and-loop storm flap, storm cuffs, two bellows pockets and FR hi-vis tape on the arms and chest.

What it isn't: an arc rating only protects up to the incident energy it was tested to, so match the ATPV to your arc-flash risk assessment. It is PPE Category III, so follow your electrical safety rules for use and inspection.
